My process

My art is about creating a narrative rather than a statement. The main themes in my work are  basic and universal — life, death, the journey, and a search for home.

Art, as is the rest of my life, is largely driven by humor as a survival mechanism and a way to connect to other humans. I like the dance of balancing the tension between technique and creativity.

My creative process is simultaneously a rejection of art as an authoritarian realm and a deep respect for, and appreciation of tradition. 

I use a variety of mixed media techniques, “painting” with transparent layers of my photographs, collage, mark making  tools, and found objects. I greatly appreciate being able to grab objects and ideas from real life, and install them into parallel realities.

The four-legged chicken, a mythical creature that might or might not be me, is the messenger that conveys meaning from here to there, as well as from then to now.
